AUGUST 21ST - 23RD 2020 BOOTH H05 VIP PREVIEW FRIDAY 21ST GENERAL ADMISSION ESPACE FONTVIEILLE PRESENTING WORKS BY METIS ATASH “In order to understand my work, one must understand my journey and my ongoing search to connect with something greater than myself... with the source of my inner being." Metis sculpts in fiberglass and uses acrylic paint, automotive lacquer and SWAROVSKI Crystals to enhance her pieces. All her creations are subject to a multi-step process of clay modeling, molding, sculpting, sanding and lacquering. The objects of her work are based on the spiritual being and her sculptures are inspired by the ancient teachings of the Daoism. The word DAO translates as "path" or "way" of life. AUGUSTE Auguste terms his oeuvre “Generations” as his works revolve around a central theme of pop culture icons from the past. Conjuring memories of previous eras, his pieces depict celebrities, super heroes, and other iconic figures in conjunction with American and French marks to provide the viewer with a reminiscent glimpse of past epochs. Working with a variety of materials, Auguste uses an unusual medium of aluminum along with digital collage, collages, and acrylic paint and uses automotive varnish to give his works a modern glossy finish. CÉDRIC BOUTEILLER Cedric Bouteiller is a French multidisciplinary urban artist, known for his complex, layered mixed-media works. He is an insatiable traveller, for him, the modern city, a space of contemporaneity has always been his favorite place to get his inspiration. By using new technologies, his visionary work is multifaceted; involving art photography, graffing, collage and graphic design composed on resin lacquered aluminum. By reversing the familiar space into a fusion of abstractions and urban iconographies, he gives a new rhythm to the city, and invite us to feel the timeless urban symphony. BYĆ Być, a Swiss artist born in Lausanne in 1982, did not choose this pseudonym at random: in Poland, the homeland of one of his grandfathers, this word means "to be" or "to search". MARCO GRASSI Marco Grassi was born in Milan in 1966 and he lives and works in Mariano Comense and Lugano. For the past ten years Marco Grassi has been working with a sense of responsibility in his works, always being faithful to the figurative style of his works, never has he allowed this to become an object of fashion only satisfying a momentary taste. His language and his subjects have always remained constant and connected to his sense of vision and to the taste of his complex sensitivity, whenever such choice – the fashionable female figure, certain colour combinations, use of lacquering , the repletion with minimum variations of the subjects have labelled him, unjustly so, a Pop artist. PATRICK HUGHES English artist born in 1939, Patrick Hughes made his first three-dimensional relief painting in 1964. Hughes' painted reliefs constantly baffle their audience, demonstrating how deceptive appearances can be. As we walk towards the seemingly flat paintings, they loom out at us, creating a disorientating and moving experience. The preconceived assumptions of the eye and the brain are challenged, inevitably raising important questions about our perception and the subconscious. JONONE John Andrew Perello, today known as JonOne, is a Graffiti artist who was born in Harlem, ghetto of New York, in 1963. JonOne’s paintings defy the “rules” of graffiti. With a tremendous sense of movement and color, his compositions combine freestyle, hand-painted aesthetics with a sense of repetition akin to textile patterns. His work has often been compared to that of abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock and French artist Jean Dubuffet. By layering precise strokes and vibrant color, he creates a uniquely balanced yet dynamic visual experience. JOSEPH The work of conceptual artist Joseph gives a place, a function and a power to the viewer, acting as an abyss as he sees through it. The use of texts rather than images contributes to exacerbate the reflection of the viewer. JEFF KOONS American Artist Jeff Koons (York, Pennsylvania 1955 - ) is internationally acclaimed for his ‘pop’ sculptures that elevate ordinary objects to artistic pieces designed to engage a broad range of viewers and, often, comment on American culture. JOËL MOENS Joël Moens de Hase is a Belgian contemporary artist, internationally renowned for his photo mosaics. he was born in 1959. His digital art is a contemporary alternative of pointillism. The artist has the ability to surprise and seduce, thanks to the originality and aesthetics of his concept. ONEMIZER Onemizer was born in 1987 in the South of France. He spent part of his childhood in Africa where he discovered art for the first time and watercolors. He moved back to France when he was a teenager, and discovered graffiti in the streets of Paris. The Paris metro and the highways and graffiti along the Parisian freeways were his museums. Later he started to paint in wastelands and in abandoned warehouses and little by little he perfected his technique. CÉCILE PLAISANCE Cécile Plaisance is a French photographer. In this series, women, their mouths, their hair, their bodies, and their curves, disappear under a cape, over which reigns, often, a man. The desires of this man are laws. Therefore, orders. Before the lens of Cécile Plaisance, those orders become “ disorders ”. Feminine expression is liberated. These phantom women deploy their zeal. Their tongues are loosed. They are exultant with joy, with pleasure. They dance, they enjoy themselves. They display their chic lingerie ; eroticism invites itself to a place beneath the sheets. ANTOINE ROSE Belgian artist Antoine Rose contemplates the world from a bird's eye view to give us a miniaturized perspective on humanity. People become gregarious insects buzzing around candy-like umbrellas. Broad panoramas reveal amazing geometric compositions where human beings are just tiny pixels lost in a vast landscape. PATRICK RUBINSTEIN Patrick Rubinstein has been passionate about kinetic art since adolescence. His love of art, film photography and kinetics have all been combined to create a unique form of art specific to him. With time, he moved from a rather traditional technique to more sophisticated creations, which were made possible by new technologies. Today, he has become a listed signature of contemporary figurative optical art and is a part of many famous private collections worldwide. |
