Massimo
GIANNONI
Biography
Massimo Giannoni, born in Empoli in 1954, lives and works in Florence. A graduate of the Florence Academy of Fine Arts, he was awarded the Lubiam Prize in 1979, given to the best student among all Italian academies.
He developed his career across Italy, Australia, and the United States, where he produced commissioned portraits and large-scale abstract works. Upon returning to Italy, he began using a richly textured oil technique, where close-up abstraction reveals figurative scenes from a distance.
His favorite subjects include libraries, stock exchanges, abandoned interiors, and historic Florentine palaces—spaces filled with memory and quiet presence.
Since the 1990s, Giannoni has exhibited widely in galleries and museums around the world. He took part in the Venice Biennale in 2011, held solo shows at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, and joined the permanent collection of the Quirinal Palace in 2020.
