Léa
PONCHARAL
Biography
Born in Bayonne in 1996, in the vibrant Basque Country, Léa Poncharal has spent most of her life in Aix-en-Provence, where she still resides today. However, she regularly returns to her birthplace, a city full of creative energy, to recharge and reconnect with her roots.
Her path as an artist was not a foregone conclusion. It did not stem from a calling or a sudden revelation, but rather from a gradual, introspective journey. A proud autodidact, Léa Poncharal was first introduced to painting by her grandfather, a painter in his spare time. This early influence led her to explore the wide world of visual arts.
Her artistic journey has been shaped by meaningful encounters, the discovery of influential works, and above all, a strong desire to explore what lies within and how best to express it. This search has driven her to experiment with various techniques and materials, allowing her to find the modes of expression that resonate most deeply with her. While today her work is often classified as sculpture, Léa Poncharal prefers to describe herself as a visual artist who is above all passionate about working with and assembling materials.
Ultimately, the most important choice she has made is to live by her inspiration and to follow wherever it may lead her. And if she were to paraphrase Andy Warhol, Léa Poncharal would say: "Art is everything I can get away with."
